Kid’s McCall Ultimate Rock Climbing Camps

The Thinking Spot in McCall is the perfect place for the ultimate kids’ climbing camps. We will introduce the kids to face climbing, crack climbing, and bouldering. This camp is designed to provide beginning and intermediate climbers with an incredible experience and to provide as much climbing knowledge as possible over three days.

Our guides will work with every camper to ensure they have a positive experience. It is all about climbing and moving on the rock every single day. The curriculum includes learning the equipment, establishing belays, building anchors, and safety.

Idaho Mountain Guides camps teach critical thinking and problem-solving skills as the campers learn more about how to climb.

Climbing with friends is a great way to strengthen relationships and build trust. We encourage this. Learning together is fun and helps a great deal as our kids develop.

A sample itinerary is described below. The schedule can change due to weather, group skills, and other factors.

  • Day 1: Students arrive at The Thinking Spot. Orientation & Introductions. Walk up to the cliffs and get on the rock. Equipment discussion: adjourn before the sun is too high in the sky.
  • Day 2: Students arrive. Review Day 1 with a fun equipment quiz. Walk to some new cliffs. Teach belay class. Climb in teams and adjourn before the sun is too high in the sky.

Full Day Climbing At Idaho’s City of Rocks

Perfect for a guided climbing adventure, the City of Rocks National Reserve is located in Southeast Idaho about 3.5 hours from Boise or Salt Lake City. The “City” has something for everyone with thousands of climbing possibilities.

Our guides are AMGA trained and will design a climbing program to meet your desired outcomes. Climbing opportunities include sport routes, traditional routes, or multi-pitch climbs. It is perfect for climbers of any skill level!

Every City of Rocks climbing adventure is a full-day guided program and is customized for you. Many clients will choose to camp the night before to minimize travel in the morning. We can help you plan the logistics as well.

Whether you want to climb Castle Rock, Steinfeld’s Dome, the Lost Arrow Spire, or just spend the day cragging in the Inner City, we look forward to climbing with you!

Boise rock climbing is fun, close to town, and an easy approach from the car! Our half-day Boise rock climbing programs are designed for rock climbers of all abilities. Our guides are AMGA trained, professional, and fun.

This course will get you up to speed quickly and help you get to the top of the columnar basalt of the Black Cliffs. We’ll start on easy climbing terrain so you can comfortably climb on some real rock while learning to trust your partner. The rest of the time is spent climbing and practicing skills!

Black Cliffs Basic Rappelling

Rappelling isn’t just used in climbing. It is used in backpacking, caving, canyoneering, and many other environments requiring a decent. This course will teach you different types of rappels and guide you through the experience of rappelling. We created this course to introduce new climbers interested in gaining new skills and abilities. And to provide a specific skillset to aspiring cavers, backpackers, and canyon hikers who need rappelling training.

Interested in a McCall rock climbing adventure? Join us for this 4-hour guided climbing day at the Thinking Spot, just north of McCall on the shores of Payette Lake.

No experience is necessary for our McCall rock climbing adventure. Our guides are AMGA trained and will teach you the skills you need to successfully climb this beautiful rock face. A short approach from the cars, allows us to spend most of the day focusing on our rock climbing adventure. We will teach you what you need to know and spend the rest of the time is spent climbing and practicing skills!

Our McCall rock climbing courses are a fantastic experience and expose you to a safe, fun, and exciting climbing environment.

Women’s Introduction to Rock Climbing

This women-specific Introduction to Rock Climbing program is a perfect way to spend your weekend. Learn to climb outside in a supportive, all-woman environment. Our women’s programs include rock climbing clinics and custom trips. Join us for this 5-hour clinic designed for the beginning rock climber and experience a fun learning environment.

Our female rock guides will get you up to speed quickly and help you to the top a few times as you learn the basics of climbing. Self-Rescue Seminar

Self-Rescue is a critical (and hopefully never used climbing skill). Our self-rescue seminar is 6-hours and will give you a broad overview and provide you with a basic understanding of how to handle a bad situation. We first focus on minimizing opportunities for an accident or incident. We teach efficient systems designed to help you practically solve situations. Self-rescue is an essential skill whether you’re lead climbing, top-roping, or even just belaying.

Trad Climbing – Anchors & Lead Climbing

Your climbing skills are advancing, and you are having fun! Learning how to trad climb will open up an entire new climbing world to you. This course teaches you how to build basic anchors and place protection using nuts, cams, and other protective gear. This 4-hour course will teach you the best practices for traditional climbing. You will learn how to set up EARNEST anchors using a variety of gear as well as natural features including cracks & boulders. Our focus is to provide you with the resources needed to be able to climb on your own. We emphasize safety and hands-on skill practice, getting you one step closer to setting up top ropes safely. This will set you on the path of climbing independently with confidence. You will learn how to determine what gear to carry, how to place and use cams, nuts, and natural anchors, basic rope management, belaying from the anchor, route planning, and developing a “trad climbing mindset.”
